Installation Procedure ( Compression method for Non-insulated terminal ends ) 1.5 to 1000 mm2

Each tubular terminal end comprises of following section :

  1. Palm
  2. Size, Capacity marks
  3. Inspection hole
  4. Stud hole
  5. Crimping barrel
  • First you have to identify the correct terminal end as per the size of the cable (conductor) on which termination is to be performed. This can be done by inspecting the size or Amps. Embossed on the palm of the terminal end. Also don’t forget to see the size of the stud diameter and the hole of the terminal end (don’t file or drill it to bring it to the required size. This may degrade performance. )
  • Remove the insulation of cable end to a size (length) of insertion barrel depth plus 2 mm That is the length from entry point to the top of the Inspection hole.
  • Clean the exposed conductor. Remove any insulation material left on it. Slightly abrade the surface of the stands mechanically. (For aluminum conductor apply specially developed anticorrosive compound and also the terminal barrel should be filled with the same paste.) This will prevent oxidation.
  • Cleaned and prepared conductor is to be inserted fully into the barrel. Full insertion can be ensured through inspection hole. Ensure the palm of the terminal end is correctly oriented for connection in order to avoid twisting of the cable leads.
  • Use the correct (recommended) size of crimping tool and die-set. Insert the terminal assembly into the head of crimping tool and perform the crimp operation as recommended by tool manufacture to complete the cycle. This completes the crimping process.
  • Use the correct (recommended) size of crimping tool and die-set. Insert the terminal assembly into the head of crimping tool and perform the crimp operation as recommended by tool manufacture to complete the cycle. This completes the crimping process.

A range of terminal ends is listed in this catalogue to suit stranded of flexible conductors. The terminal end can be prepared with the help of ‘W ‘ profile, indent or hexagonal profile crimping system.

For cables above 400 mm2 and flexible cables, it is preferred to carry out indent type compression. The indent type compression, forms the conductor strands almost into solid mass that fuses with the wall of terminal end. The hexagonal crimping system has very simple design. It has two identical die halves (different sizes of these dies are available) When you use this type of tooling, equal force from both sides is exerted on the terminal end to be crimped resulting in hexagonal profile which is very neatly, finished and with good electrical properties . Therefore, it is most preferred system.

Installation Procedure (Compression method for pre-insulated terminal ends ) 1.5 to 25 mm2.

Each terminal end comprises of following sections :

  1. End connections eg. Ring, Fork etc
  2. Sight hole
  3. Compression
  4. Insulation support
  5. Dimple for end stop
  6. Size Mark
  • First you have to identify the correct terminal end as per the size of the cable (conductor) on which termination is to be performed. This can be done by inspecting the embossed size marking on the terminal or a connector or a connector having color-coded insulation sleeves depicting its size range.
  • Ensure that if the selected terminal end is dimensionally suitable for your application.
  • Remove the insulation of conductor to the size (length) as shown in fig. 2. While removing insulation of flexible cable, special care has to be taken not to cut stands. Clean the stands if dirty.
  • Cleaned and stripped conductor should be inserted fully into the barrel until is it visible from the inspection hole or cable stop dimple on straight connector.
  • After confirming the colour codes i.e. sleeve colour and crimping die profile colour code match, place the connector assembly into the die position of the hand tool.
  • Perform the crimp operation into operating instruction of crimping tool manufacturer.

The above terminal are available in Ring type, fork type, snap on type, ferrules type, pin type, etc. They also available in two types i.e. Standard and Metal Reinforced.

These are mainly used when termination is in close proximity of each other or metal body, This also avoids cable strands coming out of termination and touching each other. It looks neat and clean installation.
